Find inspiration in nature and bring it to life on canvas.

Valerie Ann Peterson has been painting since the age of sixteen and has worked as a professional artist for more than 30 years. With a passion for capturing the beauty of the natural world, Valerie brings her experience and enthusiasm to this hands-on painting class at the Gardens.

During the class, Valerie will introduce students to a variety of oil-painting techniques inspired by nature. Participants may choose to work from a reference photograph or select a live scene within the Gardens as inspiration for their canvas.

Valerie will begin with a sketching exercise designed to explore composition and help students translate what they see onto the canvas. From there, she will guide participants through building their composition, layering paint, creating depth and dimension, and developing their own artistic style.

Whether you are an experienced painter or simply looking to explore your creativity, this class offers an opportunity to slow down, observe nature, and enjoy the process of painting in an inspiring botanical setting.

This event will take place on the Northside of the Gardens under our event tent.
